What is better - Carbon wheel with aluminum or carbon brake surface?

The first decision must be the question aluminum carbon or full carbon.

That's the hardest decision. The price difference between Alu-Carbon and Full-Carbon is not so much, the weight difference is on average 190g.

Our offered carbon wheels are high-end products of the 5th generation and have significant differences that you can not see in pictures. The workmanship and quality of the wheels is at the highest level. The centering is below 0.05mm deviation and the carbon rims are stiffer than aluminum rims.

For a hobby cyclist really does not speak for full carbon. Unfortunately, nothing against it as a few years ago, since there are no more disadvantages with the current generation.

I only recommend in one case no full carbon rims:

If you often want to switch between wheels with aluminum and carbon brake surfaces, as you always have to change the brake pads .

Attention : You can overheat any (!) Carbon rim by wrong braking (eg descending steeply behind a car and doing continuous grinding). Alu-carbon wheels can get too hot with 'wrong' brakes. The carbon conducts the heat very badly and this then remains in the aluminum.

If your total weight is over 100 kg and you want to use the wheels to ride longer runs in the mountains, then consider switching to a road bike and aero wheels with disc brakes. So you are 100% worry-free and can enjoy the beautiful bike ride to the fullest.

The full-carbon rims have become much better over the last three years in terms of brake deceleration and heat resistance. The special fibers in the braking surface (basalt), the more heat-resistant resins and the new brake pads are more resistant to heat and work well together, but the heat still has to go anyway.

A wide and high rim is an advantage. The wide rims can absorb more braking energy than the older 18 or 20mm wide rims.

Another significant increase in heat resistance was achieved up to 265 ° C.. Here new heat-resistant resins are used, so that no additional coating is necessary. In addition, the new manufacturing process  was applied so that the maximum guaranteed temperature could be raised to 265 ° C.
