The Bola 27.5" superlight hookless carbon MTB rim — a 34mm internal, 30mm-high XC/all-mountain hoop in Toray carbon at about 390g.

A lighter wheel is a swifter one, and this 27.5" (650B) Bola rim shaves rotational mass while keeping the hoop stiff and true for technical singletrack. It is built for the rider who climbs more than they send.

Buying Guide.

Weight tier - Superlight ~390g: the climber's Light-grade hoop - fast spin-up for XC race and marathon days, with a deliberately trimmed impact margin.

Weight tier - Standard ~440g: the Midweight durability build - choose it when landed jumps and rough terrain matter more than grams.

Tire & terrain: the wide channel runs 2.3-2.6" at low trail pressure - pick this rim for XC race and all-mountain grip, not for a narrow speed-first tire.

Same-family: the 27.5" 30mm-inner rim (~370g, $310) runs narrower and lighter for pure climbing speed; step to it when the climbs outweigh the descents.

Rated to a 105kg system weight - keep rider plus kit inside that ceiling.

Target Audience & Usage Notes.

XC racers, marathon/endurance riders and trail riders who prioritize climbing.

Max system weight 105kg; disc brake only.

Not a gravity or enduro rim — it is a sub-500g hoop and should not absorb DH impacts.

The Ride That Awaits.

Tape the bed, press the bead home, and feel the bike climb like it has shed its shadow - every rotation rewards you with snappier acceleration. Point it at technical singletrack and the wide rim beds modern tires cleanly, floating over roots that would bog a heavier hoop. A 3-year rim warranty and factory-direct delivery mean the only question left is which hub to lace it to.

Trade-offs & Considerations
Aero vs Crosswind: The 30mm low-profile rim adds almost no aerodynamic drag at trail speeds; the 40mm external width is traded for tyre support and a modern 2.3-2.6in profile rather than for aero gain.
Weight vs Stiffness: The Superlight tier (390g +/-10g) saves about 50g per rim versus the 440g Standard lay-up (+/-5g); lateral stiffness holds within 3%, but the thin lay-up is intended for XC and endurance rather than repeated gravity impacts.
Tire-Type Trade-off: The hookless bead is tubeless-only and pairs with hookless-rated 2.3-2.6in tyres; tubeless lowers rolling resistance and pinch-flat risk but caps maximum pressure and requires compatible tyres, tape and sealant.
Sourcing & Delivery Trade-off: Stock drilling ships in 1-3 business days at $310; a custom spoke-hole count (28/30/32) or decals add 7-15 business days and roughly a $40-80 premium.

Recommended Use Cases
XC Racing: Excellent - The light weight (390g) and 30mm depth enhance climbing and acceleration for race courses.
Trail Riding: Excellent - The 34mm inner width supports wider tires for stability and control on technical trails.
Endurance / Marathon: Good - Balances weight and stiffness for long rides without excessive fatigue.
Climbing: Excellent - Low rotational mass reduces inertia for steep ascents.
Training / Daily Riding: Suitable - Durable enough for regular use, but not as robust as heavier options.
Not Recommended For: Not recommended for downhill or enduro due to superlight construction (under 500g).

FAQ
Which tyres fit on the 34mm inner rim, and what pressure suits me?
The 34mm inner width is built for 2.3"–2.6" MTB tyres; because it is hookless, fit only ETRTO hookless-rated tubeless tyres and run them at trail pressure.
How do I work out the right spoke length for this rim?
Contact Bola for the exact ERD before ordering spokes. Once we confirm the figure, plug it into a known calculator (Sapim / DT) and add the recommended correction.
What is the maximum spoke tension I can run on this rim?
Drive-side / disc-side max tension is 130–140 kgf, with the non-drive side adapted to match; spoke holes are locally reinforced inside the carbon layup to prevent pull-out cracking.
Will the rim crack on rock gardens or bottom-outs at low pressure?
The bead area uses a thickened impact-reinforced layer; impact testing passes >40J extreme impacts (above the ISO 30J standard). Inner widths of 34mm accept wider tyres, which deform to absorb shock at low pressure.
Will I really pay no customs or VAT for delivery to the US and EU?
Yes. The Economy channel ships DDP — duties and VAT are fully prepaid by us, cleared in advance, delivered to your door with no extra payment to customs or the courier.
