The Bola 700C 50mm carbon tubeless rim - a 50mm aero rim with 30mm outer / 24-25mm internal width in four verified weight tiers, built for aero road and gravel builds.

A half-metre of carbon, four weight tiers, one unwavering purpose: to cut the wind without condemning the climber to a wheel that climbs like an anchor.

Buying Guide.

Weight tier - Extreme Light ~380g (Ultralight): for racers under ~75kg chasing every watt on climbs and rolling courses.

Weight tier - Ultralight ~405g (Light): the quickest all-round choice for acceleration and fast group rides.

Weight tier - Superlight ~435g (Light): balanced for most riders, fast yet durable enough for regular training.

Weight tier - Normal ~475g (Midweight): the durable default for heavier riders, rough roads and year-round abuse.

Bed choice: pick the hooked bed for broad tyre compatibility, or the hookless bed for the ETRTO wide-rim lower-pressure setup.

Same-depth series: the 50mm tubular rim ($310) is a glued-tyre race option; the 50mm asym 36mm rim ($320) runs a wider gravel platform.

Adjacent depth: the 45mm 30mm gravel rim ($310) is calmer in wind; the 55mm 30mm asym rim ($310) adds flat aero.

Target Audience & Usage Notes.

wheel builders, racers and endurance riders.

Choose hookless 25mm internal for modern wide tubeless tyres, or hooked 24mm for broader tyre compatibility; Extreme Light tier is best for riders under ~75kg.

Disc brake builds; spoke count and drilling selected at order.

The Ride That Awaits.

Roll it up to threshold and the wheel spins eager, light as a held breath; the wide bed settles a 30c tubeless tyre into a hush over broken tarmac.

Stand to sprint and it answers you without lag, fast enough to make the kilometres bow.

Free shipping and a 3-year rim warranty back every mile.

Trade-offs & Considerations
Aero vs Crosswind: 50mm depth saves about 4.5W versus a 35mm rim at 40km/h; at 10° yaw the 30mm outer width keeps steering input predictable on exposed descents, at the cost of a higher crosswind signature than a 40mm rim.
Weight vs Stiffness: The Extreme Light tier (380g) saves about 95g versus the Normal tier (475g) at the same 50mm depth (±5g); lateral stiffness holds within 3% across tiers, so the lightest build keeps the same rim structure.
Tire-Type Trade-off: The hooked bead accepts clincher and tubeless tyres from about 25c to 32c and supports higher pressure than hookless designs; tubeless cuts rolling resistance but needs tape, valve and sealant to seal the bed.
Sourcing & Delivery Trade-off: Stock drilling ships in 1–3 business days at $310; custom spoke-hole count or decals add 7–15 business days and roughly a $40–80 premium.

Recommended Use Cases
Sprinting / Criterium: Good. The 50mm depth and lateral stiffness support explosive efforts, but weight is a factor; choose the Superlight or Ultralight tier for better acceleration.
Triathlon / TT: Excellent. Aero profile at 50mm reduces drag; the rim is tubeless-ready for lower pressure and reduced rolling resistance.
Road Racing: Good. Balanced aero and weight; works well for solo breakaways and sustained high speeds.
Gran Fondo / Endurance: Suitable. Wide 30mm outer width allows lower pressure for comfort, but the rim is stiffer than endurance-specific models; use with 28-32c tires.
Climbing / Hill Repeats: Not recommended. The 50mm depth and weight (380-475g) are heavier than climbing rims; a shallower (30-40mm) would be better.
Not Recommended For: Extreme descending with heavy riders >120kg, or technical gravel where a shallower, more compliant rim is preferred.
Compatibility
Frame Compatibility: 700c (ISO 622mm), fits most road and gravel frames designed for 700c wheels.
Tire Type: Tubeless, tubeless-ready, or clincher with tubeless tape.
Tire Width Range: 27c to 42c
Brake Standard: Disc brake (compatible with disc hubs) or rim brake if specified.
Drivetrain: Compatible with all standard drivetrains (Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo).
Rotor Standard: N/A (rim only)

FAQ
Do I get a bare rim here, or is it built up with a hub and spokes?
It's a bare carbon rim — no hub, spokes or nipples. Take it to any wheel builder to lace it to your own hub; we can also supply a built wheel on request.
What spoke drillings are available, and which brake type is this rim rated for?
Spoke drillings and brake rating depend on the build option, selectable at checkout. If you plan to lace your own wheel, confirm the drilling and brake type with Bola before ordering so the rim matches your hub and frame.
What spoke tension can I safely build to — will the holes pull out of the carbon?
Drive-side / disc-side maximum tension is 130–140 kgf, with the non-drive side adapted to match; the spoke holes are locally reinforced inside the carbon layup to prevent pull-out cracking.
How does a deep aero rim handle crosswinds — will it tug the steering on fast descents?
An optimised aero profile keeps steering torque predictable at 10°–15° yaw, so high-speed descents stay planted and controlled.
Will I really pay no customs or VAT for delivery to the US and EU?
Yes. The Economy channel ships DDP — duties and VAT are fully prepaid by us, cleared in advance, and delivered to your door with no extra payment to customs or the courier.
