The Bola ELT 40R 700C Carbon Disc Wheelset - a featherweight ~1250g 40mm all-rounder with a ceramic 54T ratchet hub, built in Toray T800 carbon.

Take one wheelset on mixed-surface rides and feel the difference: the Bola ELT 40R is built for balanced speed and responsive handling whether you roll fast on pavement or pick a line through gravel. A 40mm rim and ~1250g pair make it a single versatile disc-brake set for road and gravel.

Buying Guide.

Internal width - 21mm: run a 28mm tire at 75-90 PSI for smooth tarmac.

Internal width - 24mm: cup a 30-32mm tire at 65-80 PSI for mixed roads.

Internal width - 26mm: settle a 35-45mm tire at 55-70 PSI on rough chipseal and gravel.

Max rider weight: rated to 105kg system - confirm rider and gear before ordering.

Same-depth series: the CLA 40R at $468 uses a steel-bearing hub, while the ULT 40R at $698 adds CX-Ray spokes - choose this ELT as the light ceramic all-rounder between them.

Adjacent depth: the ELT 45R adds a little aero and the ELT 50R more flat speed - this 40R is the climb-friendly all-rounder.

Target Audience & Usage Notes.

For endurance riders, gran fondo participants, and anyone wanting one set for road and gravel.

Not for off-road mountain biking.

Requires a disc frame; Center Lock or 6-bolt with adapter.

Max system weight 105kg.

The Ride That Awaits.

Feel the climb soften, the descent steady, the group pull away from doubt - the shallow rim carries you over the rollers without a hint of crosswind drama, and the light pair makes every out-of-the-saddle surge feel nearly effortless. Free shipping, VAT included, and a 3-year rim / 2-year wheelset warranty with 30% crash-replacement cover mean the only thing left is to ride.

Trade-offs & Considerations
Aero vs Crosswind: The 40mm depth saves about 3.0W versus a 28mm climbing wheel at 40km/h, yet remains stable at 10° yaw; it is the balance point where aero gains no longer turn into crosswind risk on rolling road stages.
Weight vs Stiffness: T800 carbon reaches about 1250g (±5g), roughly 60g lighter than a steel-bearing 40mm road set at the same depth, while lateral stiffness is within 3% thanks to the 24/24 straight-pull Pillar lacing and the ceramic BL200 hub.
Tire-Type Trade-off: The hooked / hookless bed runs 28–45c tubeless: the 21mm bed suits 28mm at 75–90 PSI, the 24mm bed 30–32mm at 65–80 PSI, and the 26mm bed 35–45mm at 55–70 PSI. Wider rims trade a little max pressure for lower rolling resistance.
Sourcing & Delivery Trade-off: Stock builds ship in 1–3 business days at $579; a custom internal-width or freehub choice adds 7–15 business days and roughly a $60–100 premium.
Config Ladder: Ceramic bearings and the 54T ratchet (6.7° engagement) are standard; moving from 21mm to 26mm internal width adds about 30–50g for wider tyre volume, and a 45mm rim depth adds about 20g and ~1.5W of aero.

Recommended Use Cases
Triathlon / Time Trial: IM and club TT fields reward deep-section aero; 40mm profile minimises drag on flat-to-rolling courses where aero dominates climbing.
Aero Road Racing: Fast flat road races and crits on disc frames; 2026 WorldTour teams run 28-30mm tubeless — pair the inner bed accordingly for rolling speed.
Race-Pace Training: Open, fast courses where holding aero position pays off; stable crosswind handling builds confidence before race day.
Compatibility
Brake Standard: Disc brake, Center Lock rotor (140/160mm); 6-bolt adapter

FAQ
Will this wheelset bolt straight onto my Shimano groupset?
A Shimano HG freehub is fitted, so an HG cassette mounts directly; note at checkout if you run SRAM XD/XDR and we will fit the matching body.
How does the rim handle crosswinds on exposed descents?
An optimised 40mm profile keeps steering torque predictable at 10°–15° yaw, so the front stays calm on windy road descents.
Are the ceramic bearings durable in rain or rough conditions — do they need frequent service?
The bearings use dual-lip contact labyrinth dust/water seals. No special disassembly is needed for wet riding; a routine grease top-up every ~5,000 km or after each rainy season is enough.
Do these rims accept standard clincher tyres, and what is the pressure limit on the hookless option?
Hooked rims accept standard clincher tyres directly. For the hookless option, per ETRTO, tubeless tyres 28c and wider must not exceed 72.5 PSI (5.0 bar) to prevent unseating.
Will I really pay no customs or VAT for delivery to the US and EU?
