The Bola EXP 45R is a 45mm U-shaped T1000 carbon disc wheelset on DT Swiss 240s hubs with CX-Ray spokes, 1300g, for lightweight road-and-gravel endurance.

The U-shaped endurance blade: DT Swiss reliability, 1300g. The Bola EXP 45R takes a 45mm U-shaped T1000 rim and wraps it around genuine DT Swiss 240s hubs with Sapim CX-Ray spokes — remarkably light for a DT Swiss-equipped disc wheelset, engineered for riders who want proven hub durability without sacrificing climbing acceleration.

Buying Guide.

Internal width - 21mm: 28c at 60-80 PSI for smooth tarmac.

Internal width - 24mm: 28-32c at 55-75 PSI for rolling road.

Internal width - 26mm: 32c at 50-60 PSI for chipseal and light gravel.

Max rider weight: rated to 110kg - check rider plus gear.

Same-depth series: the CE 45R (~$1111) adds foil carbon spokes and the EXT 45R (~$1111) goes ceramic and lighter; the EXP 45R keeps a genuine DT Swiss 240s at the lightest build.

Adjacent depth: the EXP 40R below climbs easier and the EXP 50R above adds aero - choose the 45R for the balance.

Target Audience & Usage Notes.

Disc-brake road and gravel frames, 12x100/12x142 thru-axle.

Max system weight 110kg.

Not for off-road mountain biking or heavy touring.

The Ride That Awaits.

Lift it onto your shoulder and the featherweight feel of it speaks first; on the road the U-shaped rim slices the drags without the knife-edge tremor of deeper wheels. You spin up the climb light, hold the paceline true, and the DT Swiss hub never complains. Free shipping and a 3-year rim / 2-year wheelset warranty mean waiting is the only hard part.

Trade-offs & Considerations
Aero vs Crosswind: The U-shaped 45mm rim gains about 4.0W versus a 28mm rim at 40km/h and 10 deg yaw, with the blunt U-profile calming crosswind steer versus a sharp 50mm V rim; the 40R trades about 1.0W for slightly calmer handling.
Weight vs Stiffness: At 1300g the T1000 U-profile is about 100g below an equivalent 45mm round rim (plus or minus 5g) while lateral stiffness stays within 3%; the deeper section trades a little climbing ease for aero and stability.
Tire-Type Trade-off: The 21/24/26mm internal channels run 25-50c tubeless; 21mm for 28c at 60-80 PSI, 24-26mm for 32mm gravel at 50-60 PSI, trading peak pressure for comfort.
Sourcing & Delivery Trade-off: Stock ships in 1-3 business days at $999; custom lacing or decals add 7-15 business days and about a $100-150 premium.
Config Ladder: Hyper carbon spokes (EXT spec) save about 130g for roughly +$110 and add about 5 days; ceramic bearings are already fitted, and the 36T ratchet (about 10 deg) can be stepped to a 54T ratchet (about 6.7 deg).

Recommended Use Cases
Road Racing: 2026 peloton standard runs 28-30mm tubeless on wide rims (TdF 2026 average ≈30mm); this 45mm (U-profile) section suits 40+ km/h racing and flat-to-rolling stages.
Gran Fondo / Endurance: All-day rides on modern frames designed around 30-32mm tyre clearance (Giant Propel, Cannondale SuperSix, Cervélo S5, 2026); wide 21mm bed pairs 25-32mm tubeless for comfort and speed.
Training & Daily Riding: Mid-depth versatility for group rides and race-pace training; ETRTO 2026 guidance recommends ≥28mm tubeless on 23mm+ inner beds for rolling efficiency.
Compatibility
Brake Standard: Disc brake, Center Lock rotor (140/160mm)

FAQ
How does this 45mm deep rim handle crosswinds on fast descents?
An optimised 45mm profile keeps steering torque predictable at 10°–15° yaw, so high-speed descents stay planted.
Do these rims accept standard clincher tyres, and what is the pressure limit on hookless?
Hooked rims fit standard clincher tyres directly, with or without tubes. For hookless rims, per ETRTO, tubeless tyres 28c and wider must not exceed 72.5 PSI (5.0 bar) to prevent unseating.
Are ceramic bearings durable in rain or rough conditions - do they need frequent service?
The bearings use dual-lip contact labyrinth dust/water seals. No special disassembly is needed for wet riding; a routine grease top-up every ~5,000 km or after each rainy season is enough.
Which tyres should I run, and at what pressure?
On the 21mm bed run 28mm at 60-80 PSI; on the 24-26mm bed run 32mm gravel at 50-60 PSI. The bed accepts 25-50c.
Will I really pay no customs or VAT for delivery to the US and EU?
Yes. The Economy channel ships DDP - duties and VAT are fully prepaid by us, cleared in advance, delivered to your door with no extra payment to customs or the courier.
