The Bola 27.5 inch carbon downhill rim - a 30mm-deep, 40mm-external / 32mm-internal hookless MTB rim, ~560g, T700/T800, for enduro and gravity.

A wide, stout hoop forged for the drop - built to hold its nerve when the trail points downhill and the rocks start flying.

Buying Guide.

Internal width - 32mm: 2.3-2.6 inch enduro tyres at ~20-30 PSI, dropping lower in loose, wet conditions for grip and to avoid burping.

Riding style: a heavy, stiff DH/enduro rim built for bike park, downhill and aggressive enduro; it is overbuilt for light trail or XC.

Build choice: hookless bed demands hookless-approved tyres; choose the spoke count matching your build and rider mass.

Family comparison: the 29er DH rim ($430) is the 29 inch version; the 27.5 superlight 34mm rim ($310) is a lighter trail alternative.

Disc builds only; respect the system weight limit.

Target Audience & Usage Notes.

downhill, enduro, freeride and aggressive trail riders on 27.5 inch bikes.

Disc-only; choose 6-bolt or Center Lock hub. 2.0-2.6 inch hookless-approved tyres.

Max system weight as stated on the page (65kg - confirm, see note).

The Ride That Awaits.

Set up tubeless with a 2.4 inch tyre at low PSI, it feels planted and resolute through rock gardens - the stout rim shrugs off hits that would sidle a lighter build.

You commit to the line and it holds.

Free shipping and a 3-year rim warranty back the build.

Specifications
Size: 27.5
Material: Genius Toray carbon fiber

Bead Type: Hookless
Inner Width: 32mm
Outer Width: 40mm
ERD (Effective Rim Diameter): 540mm
Weight Tier: 560g
Trade-offs & Considerations
Aero vs Crosswind: The 40mm-wide, 30mm-deep profile prioritizes tire volume and impact strength over aero; on fast downhill stages the wide bed runs low pressures for grip, with negligible aero penalty at off-road speeds.
Weight vs Stiffness: At 560g the rim is about 190g heavier than a 370g XC rim (±5g), but that mass buys a reinforced layup that resists rock strikes and spoke-pull-through under downhill loads.
Tire-Type Trade-off: The hookless bed runs 2.0–2.6" tubeless MTB tires at 30–40 psi for grip and pinch-flat resistance; hookless requires tires certified for hookless rims.
Sourcing & Delivery Trade-off: Stock drilling ships in 1–3 business days at $430; a custom spoke count or decals add 7–15 business days and roughly a $40–80 premium.
Performance Test Data
Fatigue Test: 750,000 cycles @640N (ISO 4210-7 Annex A, informative only)
Impact Resistance: >170J (Higher than ISO 4210-7)
Flatness: <0.25mm (internal QC)
Roundness: <0.3mm (internal QC)
Max Spoke Tension: >350 kgf (internal QC, spoke breaking tension)
Ultimate Strength: >100 kgf (internal QC, static spoke-hole point load)
Dynamic Equilibrium: <3g (internal QC)
Radial Stiffness: 100–140 N/mm (internal lab)
Lateral Stiffness: ≥10N/mm
Max System Weight: 65
Recommended Use Cases
Downhill / Bike-Park Build: The 560g reinforced 27.5 rim is built for downhill: >170J impact protection, well above the ISO 30J reference, a 32mm hookless bed running 2.0-2.6 inch tyres at 30-40 PSI, and lateral stiffness of at least 10N/mm.
Enduro / Freeride Build: The 40mm-wide, 30mm-deep profile prioritises tyre volume over aero; lace it with a heavy-duty hub for enduro stages and bike-park laps.
Heavy-Rider Build: Reinforced spoke-hole layup resists rock strikes and pull-through under downhill loads; build it to 130-140 kgf drive-side spoke tension for gravity abuse.
Not Recommended For: XC or marathon pedalling - at 560g, about 190g more than an XC rim, and a 65kg system limit, this is gravity only.
Compatibility
Frame Compatibility: Compatible with 27.5" (650B) wheels for frames designed for 650B mountain bikes, particularly downhill, enduro, and freeride frames with appropriate axle spacing.
Tire Type: Tubeless-ready, hookless, compatible with tubeless and tubed MTB tires.
Tire Width Range: 2.0 - 2.6 inches
Brake Standard: Disc brake only (no rim brake surface)
Drivetrain: Compatible with standard mountain bike drivetrains (Shimano, SRAM, etc.) - rim is generic.
Rotor Standard: Depends on hub; choose hub with 6-bolt or centerlock rotor mount.

FAQ
Do I get a bare rim here, or is it built up with a hub and spokes?
It's a bare carbon rim — no hub, spokes or nipples. Take it to any wheel builder to lace it to your own hub; we can also supply a built wheel on request.
What spoke drillings are available, and which brake type is this rim rated for?
Spoke drillings and brake rating depend on the build option, selectable at checkout. If you plan to lace your own wheel, confirm the drilling and brake type with Bola before ordering so the rim matches your hub and frame.
What spoke tension can I safely build to — will the holes pull out of the carbon?
Drive-side / disc-side maximum tension is 130–140 kgf, with the non-drive side adapted to match; the spoke holes are locally reinforced inside the carbon layup to prevent pull-out cracking.
Will the rim crack on rock gardens or bottom-outs at low pressure?
The bead area uses a thickened impact-reinforced layer; impact testing passes >170J extreme impacts (above the ISO 30J standard). Inner widths of 32mm accept wider tyres, which deform to absorb shock at low pressure.
Will I really pay no customs or VAT for delivery to the US and EU?
Yes. The Economy channel ships DDP — duties and VAT are fully prepaid by us, cleared in advance, and delivered to your door with no extra payment to customs or the courier.
