A 40mm U/UV hookless-compatible carbon rim with 30/34mm body outer, 23mm inner width, disc-brake, and three weight tiers 380–430g.

Balanced Aero and Climbing Rim

The BOLA 40mm UV rim balances low weight, aerodynamic profile and practical tire compatibility. Choose 30mm or 34mm outer body width with a 23mm inner bed for 27–40mm tires, in a disc-brake-only configuration.

Buying Guide.

Weight tier - Ultralight ~380g: riders under ~85kg on smooth roads.

Weight tier - Superlight ~400g: endurance and gran fondo.

Weight tier - Standard ~430g: training and OEM, the beefiest.

Depth - balanced middle: aero enough for flats, kind to climbers.

Outer width - two body options: the wider body adds aero, the narrower trims weight; pick to match your course.

Target Audience & Usage Notes.

Road racers, gran fondo riders, OEM wheel builders, and climbers.

Disc brake only.

Not for MTB or heavy off-road.

The Ride That Awaits.

Point it where road meets hilltop and it does everything well - enough aero for the flats, light enough to climb, the bed willing to carry 27-40mm rubber over rough surfaces. It is the wheel that asks you no questions. Free shipping and a 3-year warranty with crash cover mean you ride, not worry.

Trade-offs & Considerations
Aero vs Crosswind: The 40mm UV profile is the aero road choice; at 40km/h the 34mm outer width saves about 4.5W versus a 25mm rim, and at 10° yaw the wider 34mm section is stable but carries a larger crosswind signature than the 30mm outer option.
Weight vs Stiffness: The Ultralight tier (380g) saves about 50g versus the Standard tier (430g) (±10g); lateral stiffness holds within 3% because the UV profile and the 23mm internal bed are shared across tiers.
Tire-Type Trade-off: The 23mm internal width pairs with 28–32mm tyres on the 34mm outer rim for aero, or 25–28mm on the 30mm outer rim for lower weight; tubeless needs tape, a 6.5mm valve and sealant to seal the bed.
Sourcing & Delivery Trade-off: Stock drilling ships in 1–3 business days at $310; custom spoke count, valve hole or nipple angles add 7–15 business days and roughly a $40–80 premium.

Max System Weight: 105kgs
Recommended Use Cases
Climbing / Hill Repeats: Good - The 380g ultralight grade reduces rotating weight, making it a solid choice for climbs.
Gran Fondo / Endurance: Excellent - The 40mm depth and 23mm inner width provide a comfortable, stable ride for long distances.
Road Racing: Good - A balanced depth and weight make it competitive for mixed terrain races.
Sprinting / Criterium: Suitable - Not as aero as deeper rims, but the stiffness and low weight are adequate for crits.
Training / Daily Riding: Good - Durable construction and tubeless-ready build are ideal for frequent use.
Not Recommended For: Not recommended for heavy off-road or MTB use due to road-optimized width and design.

FAQ
What spoke drillings are available, and which brake type is this rim rated for?
Spoke drillings and brake rating depend on the build option, selectable at checkout. If you plan to lace your own wheel, confirm the drilling and brake type with Bola before ordering so the rim matches your hub and frame.
What is the maximum spoke tension for this rim?
Drive-side / disc-side max tension is 130–140 kgf, with the non-drive side adapted to match; spoke holes are locally reinforced inside the carbon layup to prevent pull-out cracking.
Will the rim crack on rock gardens or bottom-outs at low pressure?
The rim bead area uses a thickened impact-reinforced layer; impact testing passes >60J extreme impacts (above the ISO 30J standard). Inner widths of 23mm accept wider tyres, which deform to absorb shock at low pressure.
What tyres can I mount on this rim, and what pressure should I run?
The 23mm inner width supports tyres from 25mm to 32mm: 28–32mm on the 34mm outer width for aero, or 25–28mm on the 30mm outer width for lower weight.
Will I really pay no customs or VAT for delivery to the US and EU?
Yes. The Economy channel ships DDP — duties and VAT are fully prepaid by us, cleared in advance, delivered to your door with no extra payment to customs or the courier.
