Set

The Bola EXT 45R is a 45mm T800 UD carbon road disc wheelset on a BL180 54T ceramic hub with Hyper carbon spokes, 1170g, for lightweight mixed-terrain performance.

The featherweight road blade: 45mm, 1170g, ceramic. The Bola EXT 45R takes a 45mm T800 matte rim (28-30mm external, 21-24mm internal) and pairs it with a BL180 CNC aluminum hub, TPI ceramic bearings and Hyper carbon aero spokes — a road-oriented lightweight wheelset that still bridges to light gravel.

Buying Guide.

Internal width - 21mm: 28c at 80-90 PSI for smooth tarmac.

Internal width - 24mm: 32c at 70-80 PSI for rolling road.

Max rider weight: rated to 110kg - check rider plus gear.

Same-depth series: the EXP 45R (~$999) keeps a genuine DT Swiss 240s hub and the CE 45R (~$1111) pairs DT ratchet with foil spokes; the EXT 45R is the featherweight ceramic pick.

Adjacent depth: the EXT 40R below is the climbing all-rounder - choose the 45R for aero, the 40R for hills.

Target Audience & Usage Notes.

Disc-brake road and gravel frames, 12x100/12x142 thru-axle.

Max system weight 110kg.

Ceramic bearings need cleaning every ~6 months/5000 miles; Hyper carbon spokes are less impact-tolerant.

The 28-32c range is road-focused.

Not for heavy off-road.

The Ride That Awaits.

Take it off the rack and the difference is immediate - a statement in grams that you feel first on every attack. The flat holds your pace, the gusts hold no sway, the ceramic hub turns like a whisper. Free shipping and a 3-year rim / 2-year wheelset warranty mean the climb is about to feel lighter.

Trade-offs & Considerations
Aero vs Crosswind: The 45mm aero profile saves about 4.0W versus a 35mm road rim at 40km/h; at 10° yaw the 28–30mm outer width stays reasonably calm on tarmac, and stepping to the 50R adds about 1.5W more aero for noticeably more side-steer.
Weight vs Stiffness: T1000 carbon and hyper carbon spokes hit 1130g, about 160g lighter than a steel-spoke 45mm disc build (±5g), with lateral stiffness within 3%; the 20/20 straight-pull lacing feels precise but firmer over road buzz.
Tire-Type Trade-off: The hooked bed runs clincher or tubeless from 28c to 47c; the 21/24mm internal bed favours 28–32c road at 70–90 PSI, and hookless-rated tyres cap around 72 PSI.
Sourcing & Delivery Trade-off: Stock builds ship in 1–3 business days at $1111; custom decals or lacing add 7–15 business days and roughly a $100–150 premium.
Config Ladder: This set already runs TPI ceramic bearings and hyper carbon spokes; the main ladder is the internal width (21→24mm, about +5g for wider aero and comfort) and the hub (BL 180 → DT Swiss 240 for global serviceability, roughly +$200 and +5 days).

Recommended Use Cases
Road Racing: 2026 peloton standard runs 28-30mm tubeless on wide rims (TdF 2026 average ≈30mm); this 45mm section suits 40+ km/h racing and flat-to-rolling stages.
Gran Fondo / Endurance: All-day rides on modern frames designed around 30-32mm tyre clearance (Giant Propel, Cannondale SuperSix, Cervélo S5, 2026); wide 21mm bed pairs 25-32mm tubeless for comfort and speed.
Training & Daily Riding: Mid-depth versatility for group rides and race-pace training; ETRTO 2026 guidance recommends ≥28mm tubeless on 23mm+ inner beds for rolling efficiency.
Compatibility
Brake Standard: Disc brake, Center Lock rotor (140/160mm)
Axle: Front 12x100mm thru-axle; Rear 12x142mm thru-axle (QR with adapters)
Freehub: Shimano HG / SRAM XDR (select at checkout)

How It Compares
FAQ
What tyre widths fit this wheelset?
The 21/24mm internal options accept tyres from 28c to 47c. Run 28c at 80–90 PSI on the 21mm bed, or 32c at 70–80 PSI on the 24mm bed.
What is the maximum system weight?
110kg, covering rider plus bike and gear combined.
Is it tubeless ready out of the box?
Yes. The hooked bed mounts standard tubeless tyres; tape, valves and spare spokes are included.
How fast is the BL 180 hub engagement?
It uses a 54-tooth ratchet for 6.7° engagement, for immediate power pick-up out of corners.
Is it disc-brake specific?
Yes. It is built for disc frames with a Center Lock rotor interface and 12x100/12x142 thru-axle fitting.
