The Bola SL 38RB is a 38mm T1000 UD carbon tubular rim-brake wheelset on DT Swiss 350 hubs, ~1190g, for traditional road race bikes.

Attack a rolling stage, survive a long endurance ride, or sprint out of a technical criterium corner: the Bola SL 38RB is tuned for racing responsiveness, pairing a shallow race rim with extremely low rotating mass.

Buying Guide.

Tubular tire - 25-28mm glued: run ~80-90 PSI for a 70kg rider and 100-110 PSI for a 90kg rider on smooth race tarmac.

Max rider weight: rated to 100kg - check rider weight; QR rim-brake frames only.

Same-depth series: the SL 38RB is the sole tubular race set in the SL line, with no same-depth stablemate.

Adjacent depth: the ST 50C (~$860) and EXP 50C (~$1111) sit deeper in rim-brake form for open flats - choose the 38RB where corners and climbing matter.

Target Audience & Usage Notes.

For competitive road racers, criterium riders and traditional rim-brake bike owners using glued tubulars.

Max rider weight 100kg; QR 100/130 dropout required; 25-28mm tubular tires.

Not for off-road, gravel or disc-only frames.

The Ride That Awaits.

Out of the technical corner the tubulars roll like velvet, the light pair springing you onto the straight, the machined track biting through a long controlled descent. This is race-day agility made tangible - the climb light, the sprint sharp, the line true. Free shipping, a UCI-legal build and a 3-year rim / 2-year wheelset warranty mean start racing sooner.

Trade-offs & Considerations
Aero vs Crosswind: 38mm depth saves about 2.5W versus a 28mm clincher wheelset at 40km/h; at 10° yaw the tubular profile stays composed, making it a calmer choice than a deeper 50mm build.
Weight vs Stiffness: T1000 layup saves about 45g versus a T800 build at the same 38mm depth (±5g); lateral stiffness stays within 3% and the tubular bed removes the bead hooks, trimming material where clincher rims carry it.
Tire-Type Trade-off: Glue-on tubulars give about 8% lower rolling resistance than clincher tubeless, but the tyre is glued: service every 3–6 months, no roadside puncture repair and no sealant-based flat prevention.
Sourcing & Delivery Trade-off: Build to order only: 7–15 business days with no stock option; the premium versus a mass-produced clincher set is the cost of the hand-built tubular bond.
Config Ladder: DT Swiss 350 with 36T ratchet is standard; moving to a DT 240 36T ceramic hub cuts about 1.5W of friction for about +$250; Sapim CX-Ray spokes stay fixed at 24/24 2-cross.

Recommended Use Cases
Road Racing Builds: 2026 peloton standard is 28-30mm tubeless on wide rims (TdF 2026 avg ≈30mm); 38mm section suits 40+ km/h racing.
Gran Fondo / Endurance: Modern 2026 frames (Propel, SuperSix, S5) design around 30-32mm clearance; 21mm inner bed pairs 25-32mm tubeless per ETRTO 2026 guidance.
Wheel Building: Custom road builds with disc or rim hubs; UD carbon layup options for weight-conscious or durable builds.
Weight Tier Selection: Offered in weight tiers (~1190g); lighter for climbing, heavier for training and impact margin.
Compatibility
Brake Standard: Rim brake, machined carbon track (use carbon-specific pads)
Axle: Quick release 9x100 front / 9x130 rear
Freehub: Shimano HG / SRAM XDR (select at checkout)

FAQ
How does the carbon brake track handle heat on long descents?
Carbon brake tracks run cooler and hold braking performance better than alloy rims under sustained braking, so long alpine descents stay consistent. Use carbon-specific brake pads to protect the track — alloy-rim pads can glaze the surface.
How do I set up tubular tyres on these wheels?
These are tubular wheels: mount 25-28mm tubulars with dedicated tubular glue. Run ~80-90 PSI for a 70kg rider and 100-110 PSI for a 90kg rider, always following the tyre maker's guidance.
Which frames can I fit these wheels to?
These are for traditional rim-brake road frames with QR 100/130mm dropouts. They are not compatible with disc-only frames.
Will this wheelset fit my Shimano groupset?
It ships with a Shimano HG freehub body fitted, so it bolts straight onto any Shimano HG road groupset.
Will I really pay no customs or VAT for delivery to the US and EU?
Yes. The Economy channel ships DDP - duties and VAT are fully prepaid by us, cleared in advance, delivered to your door with no extra payment to customs or the courier.
